Der Name polypolar ist griechisch und bedeutet mehrfach entgegengesetzt wirkend. Er beschreibt die grundlegende Idee des Sammelwerks unterschiedliche Musikstile zu vereinen.
Die Illustration zeigt Polarlichter, welche an den Polen durch elektrisch geladene Teilchen des Sonnenwindes entstehen. Betrachtet man die abwechslungsreichen Musikstücke als musikalische Pole so schaffen auch sie einen besonderen Reiz.
